Get To Know Your Spirit Guides: Tarot Edition
Getting to Know Your Spirit Guides:Tarot & Oracle Cards Edition
An Intuitive Exercise for Connecting with Your Spiritual Team
Have you ever wondered who makes up your spiritual team? What energies walk alongside you, support your spiritual development, and help guide you through different chapters of your life?
During one of my mentorship sessions, an exercise was channeled through Spirit that I felt called to share with those looking to deepen their connection with their Spirit Guides.
This simple exercise utilizes a tarot or oracle deck to help you explore the energies, roles, and lessons associated with your spiritual team while strengthening your own intuitive awareness.
The intention isn't necessarily to identify your guides by name, but rather to become familiar with their unique energetic signatures, how you experience their presence, and the ways you can develop a clearer connection.
Step 1: Prepare Your Space & Set Your Intention
Before beginning any form of spiritual communication, I always encourage connecting with Source first.
Find a quiet, comfortable space where you can sit without distractions. Take a few deep breaths, ground yourself in your body, and bring your awareness into the present moment.
You may envision a beautiful column of divine white or golden light descending from the Most High, surrounding and moving through your entire being.
From here, set your intention:
"I call upon Source, the Most High, and the purest vibration of divine love and light. I invite my Spirit Guides and those of spiritual team to step forward in alignment with my highest good and the highest good of all. May this connection be guided by divine wisdom, truth, love, and protection."
If you feel that you would benefit from additional spiritual protection, you may also invite Archangel Michael or Archangel Uriel to stand alongside you throughout the exercise.
Remember, intention is everything. Be clear about whom you are inviting into your sacred space.
Step 2: Become Familiar with the Energy
Before reaching for your cards, spend a few moments sitting with the energy.
This is where your clair abilities and energetic sensitivity come into play.
When inviting your spiritual team forward, notice whether you experience a subtle shift in your awareness, the atmosphere of the room, or the sensations within your physical body. You’re going to start with inviting one energy in at a time. You can always return to this exercise to connect with another guide. So look for who steps forward the strongest.
I often describe this as tuning into the static of Spirit, almost like adjusting the dial on a radio until you begin to recognize a particular frequency.
You may notice:
Clairsentience: Subtle sensations, emotional impressions, tingling, or shifts in how your body feels.
Clairvoyance: Colors, symbols, images, or visual impressions appearing within your mind's eye.
Clairaudience: Words, phrases, or internal impressions that seem to arise spontaneously.
Claircognizance: A sudden sense of knowing or understanding without a conscious explanation.
Kinesthetic responses: Goosebumps, full-body chills, spiderweb-like sensations across the skin, warmth, coolness, or perceived temperature shifts.
These experiences can become personal reference points as you develop your intuitive awareness.
A personal example:
When I am working with Spirit, one of the ways I personally recognize what feels like a strong confirmation is through full-body chills. If I am receiving information and ask Spirit or my spiritual team for validation, I will sometimes experience an unmistakable wave of chills moving through my entire body.
Over time, I have come to associate this particular sensation with a spiritual "yes."
This is something I have learned to recognize within my own practice. Your intuitive responses may be entirely different, and that's perfectly okay! The goal is to develop a greater understanding of your own intuitive language rather than trying to replicate someone else's experiences.
Step 3: Choose Your Tarot or Oracle Deck
Once you feel centered and connected, select a tarot or oracle deck that resonates with you. For those who' don’t have a deck or prefer automatic writing you may use that practice as well. However, in this exercise I’m focusing on utlizing a deck, as it helps give a more “physical” representation of the energy.
Hold your deck between your hands, take a moment to ground yourself, and invite one guide, one member of your spiritual team to come forward for this exercise.
You can shuffle your cards while holding each question in your mind, allowing a card to emerge naturally, or simply drawing from the deck when you feel ready.
I encourage you to take your time with each question.
Rather than immediately reaching for the guidebook, first observe the imagery, symbolism, colors, and feelings that arise. What catches your attention? What emotions or impressions surface?
Allow your intuition to participate in the interpretation.
Step 4: Ask Your Spirit Guides These Five Questions
1. What energy or role do you hold within my Spirit Team?
This question allows you to feel deeper into the description and energetic qualities of the guide you believe is stepping forward.
For example, does the card suggest an energy associated with healing, protection, teaching, wisdom, creativity, or transformation?
Pay attention to the archetypes and symbolism within the card. They may offer insight into the role this guide represents within your spiritual development.
2. What can I do to best connect with you?
Every spiritual connection may feel different.
This question encourages you to explore the practices, environments, or states of awareness that may support a stronger relationship with this particular guide.
Perhaps the card points toward meditation, spending time in nature, dream journaling, prayer, an alter, creative expression, or simply learning to become still.
3. What area of my development are you currently helping me strengthen?
Think about the lessons this guide may be here to help you learn.
Perhaps you are being encouraged to strengthen your discernment, develop greater trust in yourself, establish healthier boundaries, or deepen your compassion.
This question shifts the focus from simply identifying your guide to understanding how the relationship may support your personal and spiritual growth.
4. What practice can I do to have a clearer, more grounded connection with you?
Spiritual development is not just about opening your intuitive abilities. It is equally important to learn how to remain grounded, centered, and discerning.
This question invites practical guidance.
Perhaps your card encourages a daily meditation practice, working with your breath, sitting in the power, practicing mindfulness, or recording intuitive impressions in a journal.
Consider one small practice you can incorporate into your routine.
5. What message do you have for me at this point in my life?
Allow this final card to serve as an opportunity for reflection.
What themes are currently unfolding in your life? Are you being asked to release something, recognize an old pattern, embrace a new beginning, or trust the process of your own growth?
Rather than forcing an interpretation, notice what naturally resonates with your present circumstances.
Sometimes the simplest message can hold the greatest meaning.
Step 5: Pay Attention to the Symbolism & Your Physical Responses
Throughout this exercise, pay attention to more than just the cards themselves.
Notice whether certain symbols repeat, whether a particular card creates a stronger emotional response, or whether you experience bodily sensations as you ask specific questions.
For example, you may draw a card depicting a wise teacher and immediately notice a feeling of warmth or familiarity. Or perhaps a symbol appears that you have repeatedly encountered during meditation or dreams.
These observations can help you develop a personal symbolic language.
If you experience something that feels like a confirmation, write it down.
Over time, your journal may help you recognize recurring patterns, distinguish intuition from assumption, and better understand how your own awareness responds during spiritual practice.
Step 6: Close the Connection with Gratitude
Once you have completed your reading, take a moment to thank your Spirit Guides, your spiritual team, and Source for the opportunity to connect.
You may say:
"Thank you to Source, the Most High, and my spiritual team for the wisdom, love, and guidance received during this practice. May anything I have explored today be integrated with clarity, discernment, and grace. I now bring my awareness fully back into my body, grounded in the present moment. And so it is."
Take a few deep breaths, feel your feet against the ground, and gently bring your attention back to your surroundings.
You may wish to journal your experience immediately afterward.
A Final Thought: Learning the Language of Your Spirit Team
Building a relationship with your spiritual team is a deeply personal process, one that I believe unfolds through patience, practice, and trust. You don't need to know every guide's name, see them clairvoyantly, or experience dramatic physical sensations to explore this connection.
Sometimes it begins with something as simple as noticing an image, recognizing a recurring symbol, or developing a deeper awareness of your own intuitive responses.
The more you become familiar with your own energy, the easier it may become to recognize what feels different from your usual state of awareness.
Return to this exercise periodically and compare your experiences. As you grow, you may find that the same cards and symbols take on new meanings.
Above all, approach the practice with curiosity rather than expectation.
Your spiritual development isn't a race to receive more information. It's an ongoing journey of awareness, discernment, and learning to trust yourself.
With love and light,
-T.
